I have long believed that entrepreneurs can build things that make the world better. This doesn’t mean that is true for every entrepreneur. Some people build products that are handy or snazzy but not better. Others even create businesses that definitely do nothing to make the world better.

Big business doesn’t change things. The government certainly isn’t focused on making things better. It’s small business owners, startup founders, and entrepreneurial thinkers who are bold enough and brave enough to move beyond ‘the next best thing’ and think about something better.

As we begin this new year, I am focused (for my clients as well as myself) on building to make things better. Everything we have confronted over the past year has made it evident that our communities, our country, and our world could use a focus on better.

So, here we are at the beginning of a new year with the opportunity for a fresh start with a clear and intentional focus.

You may wonder what this has to do with Influence, Communication, or Leadership. However, I think they are all linked together. If all the entrepreneurs out there focus on better, their influence will grow because they will communicate to their teams, clients, and communities that their values and growth are about something inspiring. They will be viewed as the leaders of the future.

So, whether you are building something new or finding a new way to continue to build what you have, make this the Year of the Entrepreneur.
